His mother, Raine Loire, dies [either in childbirth, or when Esthar soldiers try to re-kidnap Ellone after Laguna Loire sends her back to Winhill]. With no other known surviving relatives, Leonhart and Ellone are sent to Edea Kramer's orphange South of Centra. |

Edea and Cid Kramer decide it is too dangerous for Ellone to remain at the orphanage and send her to live on Edea's ship for her own safety. Leonhart is devastated when his 'Sis' leaves, and becomes increasingly anti-social, rarely if ever playing with the other children. |

Leonhart is sent to Balamb GARDEN since he is 'too old' to remain at the orphanage, and receive formal education. He was never a spectacular student, more methodical in his work than his self-appointed rival, Seifer Almasy. He became a SeeD at the age of seventeen, and was one of the key people in the defeat of the Sorceress from the future, Ultimecia. |
